Our next shirt sponsors
|
We've had some dodgy shirt sponsors over recent years: two went bust (Alpari and XL Leisure), and two are offshore bookmakers (SBOBET and Betway). Given recent revelations about corrupt sports gambling, the huge profits and dubious tax arrangements of many gambling businesses, and the ruinous effect of gambling addiction, isn't it time fans demanded a more legitimate shirt sponsor?

"He described the partnership with Principal Partner Betway, which was agreed in February 2015, as a ‘significant mid-season coup and the ‘key driver of the rise in commercial revenue’."

Well think about the EMIRATES STADIUM and Arsenal having JVC on their shirts. Do you think that might make the impact of Emirates sponsoring the stadium significantly less? this is what brand dilutive is.

Im not saying it will happen DRUID HIGH CYCLOPS KIA SON. just that it's a possibility if the stadium sponsor has deep enough pockets. It might make sense for them to buy out Betway as it is BRAND DILUTIVE.

Not really, it's clearly working for them and they are turning over shed loads.
You live in a bit of a dream world Gavvy, West Ham harked the deal around businesses with the OS as a back drop but the FACT is at the moment the brand is only worth around what Betway have paid and without Champions League or a run of success that's not going to change.
Changing stadium isn't going to massively effect the viewing figures alone.

If the shirt and shirt sponsor deals get bought out, on the face of it the current pair didn't think very hard.
Then again, they may well have read too much Lawro and believed the hype that we were relegation fodder.
